EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) – Since Washington head coach Jedd Fisch arrived to the program in January of this year, it was a goal of his to make it to a bowl game.
Finishing the regular season 6-6 just meeting that threshold to become bowl eligible, the Huskies have seen the practice field 15 extra times in order to prepare for the Tony the Tiger Sun Bowl.
These practices not only allow the program to prepare for its bowl game, but also give the team extra time to see the field ahead of the off season which is vital for such a young program. Add a Sun Bowl win on top of it, the Huskies look to hopefully secure a win in order to add a boost of moment headed into spring.
“You love to be able to use the bowl game as a way to propel you into the offseason,” said Fisch. “I look back and three out of the six CFP teams played in the Sun Bowl over the last three years, clearly it’s a bowl game that people are benefiting from playing in. Obviously Notre Dame finishing last year winning the game and then now playing in the CFP, it is impressive to say the least. This bowl game, the importance of this bowl game, the importance of a win and if we can find a way to utilize, that to propel us to the offseason, that’ll be great.”
Norte Dame and Arizona State were both invited to a Tony the Tiger Sun Bowl game in recent time as mentioned, now apart of the College Playoff Bracket in 2024. Louisville and or Washington look to continue this trend with a win of its own with playoff hopes in the near future to follow.
