KTSM News – Weather Authority Alert: Heavy rain threat through Tuesday night

Posted on July 21, 2025

In my 27 years in my home in the Upper Valley, I have NEVER experienced such a stormy night as last night. The thunderstorms were loud and persistent for hours… seemingly right on top of our roof. We even lost power between 3:15 AM and 6:20 AM. Our neighborhood received over 1.5 inches of rain, as did many other neighborhoods yesterday and early this morning. Officially at the airport, we receive 0.37 inches to bring our official total for the year to 2.33 inches. (Normal would be 3.31 inches.)

We could easily see a repeat of storms tonight and Tuesday night as well. Here’s your exclusive 9-Hour Forecast for Tuesday:

TONIGHT:   KTSM has issued a Weather Authority Alert due to the potential for t-showers that could drop very heavy rainfall through Tuesday night.  Expect partly to mostly cloudy skies with widely scattered showers and t-showers during the evening and overnight hours.  Some individual storms could unlock rapid, heavy rainfall flooding streets and arroyos.  The SW winds will range from 5-20 mph with gusty winds likely near area storms.  The low will drop to 73.

FORECAST:  Tuesday will be mostly cloudy with widely scattered showers and t-showers.  Moments of midday sunshine will heat us up to 90 and set off another round of late day t-showers.  Some individual storms may produce rapid, heavy rainfall that could flood streets and arroyos.  Wednesday will be partly cloudy and hotter with a high of 95.  We dry out on Wednesday as rain and storm chances fade.  Thursday will be mostly sunny and 100.  Friday will be mostly sunny and 101.  On Saturday, the monsoon moisture charges back up the t-storm chances for Saturday evening.  Saturday’s high: 102.
