EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) — A 52-year-old woman was arrested on Tuesday, Oct. 21, for making a false report of a burglary and assault claim last month, according to the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office (EPCSO).
Maribel Wong, 52, was booked into the El Paso County Detention Facility on one count of false report to a peace officer under a $4,000 bond.

On Sept. 9, deputies responded to a home at the 900 block of Stamfordham Drive after a woman, later identified as Wong, had reported that an unknown man had forced entry and assaulted her.
Deputies conducted an initial investigation, but no evidence supported Wong’s claims, according to EPCSO.
Upon further investigation, detectives found inconsistencies between Wong’s statements and newly obtained evidence, including text messages she claimed were sent by a suspect.
Detectives later determined the messages had been sent by Wong herself. When confronted, she admitted to fabricating the story, according to EPCSO.
“When someone files a false report, it takes valuable time and resources away from real victims and ongoing investigations,” Sheriff Oscar Ugarte said. “The Sheriff’s Office reminds the public that filing a false report is a serious offense and will not be tolerated.”
