EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) — A 42-year-old woman was struck and killed by a vehicle that began to roll in a parking lot and a group of pedestrians, including the victim, tried to stop it, El Paso Police said.
Police said that 42-year-old Gloria Anthony was struck and killed by the rolling vehicle when a group of pedestrians tried to stop it at about 7:50 p.m. Thursday along the 12200 block of Pellicano.
Police say that a 62-year driver pulled into a parking lot and exited her vehicle. The vehicle began to roll backwards with a passenger inside it, police said.
At the time, Anthony was crossing Pellicano along with other pedestrians and saw the vehicle rolling backwards. The pedestrians attempted to stop the vehicle, and in the process, Anthony was knocked down to the ground as the vehicle continued to roll backwards, police said.
Anthony was struck by the vehicle and suffered life-threatening injuries, police said.
She was transported to a local hospital where she later died, police said.
The investigation continues into the incident.
This is the 39th traffic fatality inside the El Paso city limits so far this year, compared to 53 in 2023.
