EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) — The YMCA of El Paso is providing free swimming lessons not only to their enrolled campers but also to children in the community in two different October sessions.
The swim lessons are provided through a $75,000 grant from the Y-USA to “reinforce the YMCA’s commitment to safety around water and the life-saving importance of swim skills”, according to the YMCA.
“Providing free swim lessons to our campers is an incredible way for us to live out our mission of promoting youth development and healthy living. Swim safety is not just a skill — it’s life-saving. By including swim lessons as part of our camp experience, we ensure that every child has the chance to learn these vital skills, all while having fun and staying active,” said Executive Director of the YMCA of El Paso Jeremy Jordan.
Children enrolled in the Bowling Family YMCA camps will be getting free swimming lessons at the YMCA’s Bowling and Westside locations, at 5509 Will Ruth Ave. and 7145 N. Mesa St, according to the YMCA.
Children from the ages of 8 to 12 can enroll in the YMCA’s Bowling Family camps before Monday, Oct. 7 at $80 weekly for members and $160 weekly for non-members, according to the YMCA.
Public swimming lessons will be provided for children ages 8 to 12 on Tuesday, Oct. 8 and on Tuesday, Oct. 29. Both public swimming lessons will be provided at the Bowling YMCA location and the Westside Family YMCA locations as well.
According to the YMCA, camps will also be offering school intersession camps at the Loya Family YMCA, located at 2044 Trawood Dr., to ensure families “have more opportunities to engage in enriching activities throughout the school break.”
