EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) — Ysleta Independent School District has some of the top-performing schools in West Texas, according to rankings released by the nonprofit research and advocacy group Children at Risk.

Ysleta ISD has the No. 1-ranked elementary school, the No. 1 middle school and the No. 3 high school, according to the rankings. Children At Risk aims to help parents across Texas better understand how their local schools are performing.

Among the newly released 2023 Greater West Texas Elementary School Rankings, Vista Hills
Elementary School landed in the No. 1 spot with an overall grade of A-, while six other Ysleta ISD
campuses were in the Top 10-ranked schools in West Texas. They are:

The group’s 2023 Greater West Texas Middle School Rankings showed the Young Women’s Leadership Academy capturing the No. 1 spot with an overall grade of A, followed by the K-8 Alicia R. Chacon International School in the No. 2 spot with a grade of A-; and the No. 6 Eastwood Knolls International School with a grade of B+.

The 2022-23 school year rankings analyzed 218 public schools in West Texas, including 127
elementary schools and 55 middle schools ranked across three main areas and 36 high schools ranked across four main areas in the following areas:

Student Achievement – Student performance on state standardized tests

Campus Performance – How a school compares in test scores to schools with similar
levels of poverty

Growth – How students improve on their STAAR tests in a school year

College Readiness (high schools only) – How many students are graduating on time
and participating in other college readiness activities

Seven other Ysleta ISD elementary schools — Glen Cove, Ramona, Sageland, Pebble Hills, Desertaire, Ysleta and Loma Terrace — were named Gold Ribbon schools or high-performing and high-poverty traditional campuses that are more than 75 percent economically disadvantaged and received an A or B in the rankings.
