Despite the hellish temperatures in this state, summer is still one of my favorite seasons. My younger self would balk at this. Summer was when I was tasked with watching my little sister while our parents worked full-time. I now look fondly upon those days of making Capri-Sun popsicles, painting birdhouses purchased at Michael’s, and watching reruns of the entirely age-inappropriate Maury. As an adult, I love the lingering daylight at 8:30 p.m., the weekends revolving around a pool, and the perfect, frigid escape of a movie theater. And, yes, I also love all the social gathering that comes with the season.We’re coming up on the big summer holiday—Fourth of July—and mercifully, it’s on a Friday. Hello, three-day weekend.
