Last week, Ken Burns threatened to lock me in a library for twelve hours. To be fair, that probably doesn’t feel very long to the filmmaker behind documentaries such as The Civil War and Baseball (which run for over 11 and 23 hours, respectively). Of course, Burns was making a joke—one he’s repeated during the ongoing promotional tour for his latest longform work, The American Revolution.
