Most of the decor at Houston’s newest hotel isn’t new. The velvet sofas, canopy beds, and oil paintings at the Marlene are decades, if not centuries, old. Every item was chosen by influencer and innkeeper Lily Barfield; her husband, Thomas; and her mom, Tracie Aguillard. “We took six sourcing trips to France to fill this inn and hand selected every single piece,” Barfield says. “Point at anything and I can tell you the story behind it.”With a soft opening set for June 28, the Marlene is the latest boutique hotel to debut in the hip Montrose neighborhood.
