Texas Renaissance FestivalThe Texas Renaissance Festival, in the woods northwest of Houston, is the nation’s largest attraction of its kind by attendance, drawing half a million visitors each year to a bygone fantasy land of jousting, knights, and handmade clothes and trinkets. After dark, the festival’s campgrounds offer an escape of another sort, with late-night dancing and ribald party games.Last year, the death of George Coulam, who led the festival since its founding in 1974, set in motion a complicated succession battle.
