Texas state Representative James Talarico is no stranger to the slings and arrows of political battle. Earlier this month, he defeated Congresswoman Jasmine Crockett in a U.S. Senate primary that got increasingly heated toward Election Day amid allegations that he called Colin Allred, who dropped out of the Senate race in December and pivoted to a House run, a “mediocre Black man.” (Talarico countered by saying he’d only called Allred’s method of campaigning mediocre.)
