The Dallas Mavericks, whose primary avocation the past few weeks has been watching the playoffs from home, finally got some good news. Actually, describing what happened as “good news” undersells it. The team has been in the direst of straits since the baffling, boneheaded decision to trade away Luka Dončić, the then-25-year-old face of the franchise, for Anthony Davis, a player 6 years his senior without the “generational talent” label that made Dončić so special. Dallas fans booed the Mavs and cheered for Luka, even now that he was wearing a Lakers jersey, when he played at the American Airlines Center in April.
