Actually, describing what happened as “good news” undersells it. The team has been in the direst of straits since the baffling, boneheaded decision to trade away Luka Dončić, the then-25-year-old face of the franchise, for Anthony Davis, a player 6 years his senior without the “generational talent” label that made Dončić so special. Dallas fans booed the Mavs and cheered for Luka, even now that he was wearing a Lakers jersey, when he played at the American Airlines Center in April.
