The first time I remember going to the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo was when I was four years old. I wore brown and pink square-toe boots with a matching ruffled skirt; gorged on all the foods my organically minded mother despised; watched rodeo clown Leon Coffee steal hearts; and danced along to performances by Hannah Montana and the Cheetah Girls. Even my preschool self knew it did not get better than this. From then on, it was a question of when, not if, we would attend each year (it runs March 4–23 in 2025, by the way).
