Like many Hill Country residents, Michele Pitman, co-owner of Kerrville’s Vecinos Cafe, was surprised by the flash floods that inundated several counties over the July Fourth holiday weekend. But that didn’t stop Pitman and her husband, Gerardo Martinez, from immediately acting to help in the devastating aftermath.“Our first concern was anybody who lived along the river or who was camping along the river,” says Pitman, whose voice was shaky as I spoke with her on Monday morning.
