Texas Monthly is excited to announce five new hires, filling valuable roles across our editorial department. Senior writer Robert Downen joined the news and politics team in March from The Texas Tribune, where he covered extremism and disinformation’s influence on democracy. Before that, he worked at the Houston Chronicle as a city hall and religion reporter. He led the paper’s investigation into widespread child abuse in the Southern Baptist Convention, prompting new laws, reforms, and a Justice Department investigation. Downen, who hails from Illinois and has spent time in New York, has been a Texan for nearly a decade.
