Since then, I’ve looked for finds amid the bluebonnets in the fields of Warrenton, braved an ice storm during the lesser-known winter show, and even corralled my girlfriends for a birthday trip in the “offseason” so we could explore sans crowds. There’s no denying that tiny Round Top (population 113) has earned its reputation as the premiere destination for pickers. But as the show has grown—attracting more than 150,000 shoppers, designers, and dealers from posh places like New York, Los Angeles, and London—prices have increased too. Some big venues charge a cover, and the competition for accommodations is almost as fierce as the fight for antiques.
