Texas Monthly – The Unlikely Story Behind the Oscar-Nominated Ballad From ‘Sing Sing’

The director, Greg Kwedar, is from Fort Worth and based in Austin. Producer Monique Walton also lives in the capital city. Then there’s the film’s song,“Like a Bird,” which was written and performed by two Texans, singer-songwriter Abraham Alexander of Fort Worth and Austin-based guitarist and producer Adrian Quesada, who’s originally from Laredo and best known for his work in the Black Pumas. The song, an emotional mix of guitar, soulful hand claps, and passionate vocals, is up for an Oscar at the 97th Academy Awards on Sunday—one of three nominations for Sing Sing.
