Texas Monthly – There’s a Reason ‘The Last of Us’ Is Stacked With Texans

The Last of UsA lot happens in the second episode of season two of HBO’s The Last of Us. Much of it involves two of the series’ major characters: Joel, played by erstwhile San Antonian Pedro Pascal, and Abby, a character introduced for the second season, portrayed by the Dallas-raised actor Kaitlyn Dever. The two characters meet when Abby, after tumbling down the side of a mountain during a Wyoming blizzard, finds herself besieged by the fungal-infected zombies that make up the show’s primary antagonists—at which point Joel offers his hand, saving her life, before they make their escape to the ski lodge Abby and her friends have holed up in. The (spoiler-heavy) conclusion of Abby and Joel’s encounter garnered most of the attention on the episode, but—even leaving…
