KTSM News – Students to plant new trees in West EP for Arbor Day

Posted on October 31, 2024

EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) — El Paso students are celebrating Arbor Day by turning over a new leaf and planting trees.

The City of El Paso Parks and Recreation Department, Streets and Maintenance Department, the Master Gardeners of El Paso, the West Forestry Council, and students from William C. Herrera Elementary School will plant several trees to observe Arbor Day.

The tree planting event will take place at 9 a.m. on Friday, Nov. 1, at Montoya Heights Park, 340 Coates Dr.

In addition to planting trees, the event will also have guest speakers, an educational presentation about trees and pollination, and an unveiling of posters done by students at Herrera Elementary in honor of Arbor Day, according to the news release by the City of El Paso.

The City said roughly 150 students from William C. Herrera Elementary School will assist City crews in planting new trees in the park and learning about nature.

Students will also receive seedlings to take home and plant, the City said.

Arbor Day falls on the first Friday of November and according to the Texas A&M Forest Service, fall is the perfect time to plant new trees.
