KTSM News – Star on the Mountain, El Paso landmarks to light green in support of veterans

Posted on November 1, 2024

EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) — El Paso will be lighting green as part of the “Operation Green Light” to support local veterans.

El Paso County and the El Paso Chamber will participate in Operation Green Light, a nationwide initiative to raise awareness of the challenges faced by veterans and the resources available to them and their families.

According to El Paso County, County buildings, bridges and other meaningful landmarks will be lighting green from Nov. 4 through Nov. 11.

The El Paso Chamber said they will be shining the Star on the Mountain green from Nov. 1 through Nov. 12.

“The El Paso Chamber is always honored to light the Star on the Mountain in partnership with the City of El Paso,” Claudia Rosales, the El Paso Chamber’s director of Programs and Community Outreach said. “Lighting the Star green is a powerful reminder of our community’s shared appreciation for the men and women who have dedicated their lives to defending our freedom.”

El Paso is celebrated as the Veterans Captial of the U.S. and a Great American Defense Community, according to the El Paso Chamber.

In addition to iconic El Paso landmarks, both organizations are inviting the community to join the effort in showing support and respect to our local veterans.

According to the County, Operation Green Light is in its third year and was started by the National Association of Counties and the National Association of County Veterans Service Officers in 2021.

In 2023, over 300 counties participated in Operation Green Light.
