El Paso Matters – Photos: Ron Stallworth shares journey behind ‘The Gangs of Zion’ with El Paso Matters Book Club

Posted on November 1, 2024

The El Paso Matters Book Club gathered Tuesday, Oct. 29, at Clardy Fox Library for a discussion with author Ron Stallworth about his book “The Gangs of Zion: A Black Cop’s Crusade in Mormon Country.”

Stallworth shared stories from his life and career as a police detective in Wyoming and Utah.

He didn’t hold back, sharing what it was like dealing with gangs like the Bloods and Crips, and even rapped a few lines from N.W.A’s “Fuck tha Police.”

More than 30 people attended the discussion, an event of the Book Club that brings you author Q&As, book reviews and special gatherings. To join the club, sign up here.
