El Paso Taxpayer Revolt – EL PASO SENIORS SLAMMED BY PROPERTY TAX INCREASE

Posted on November 2, 2026

[[{“value”:”

Let me introduce you to my mother Joan. Born in New York City, she worked as a real estate agent in Santa Fe for decades before retiring in El Paso.

She purchased a 2,200-square-foot home on the Westside, where she has been living since 2024.

Last year, her total property tax bill, after her exemption for being a senior, was $5,721.

She just received a notice from the El Paso Consolidated Tax Office informing her that her new property tax is $6,164.

The 7.7% increase of $443 is more than double the federal inflation rate of 3.5%.

My mother’s retirement, investment, and social security income did not increase since last year, which means that she will be $443 poorer than she was last year.

The extra $443 results from an increase of 14.0% in her City property tax, 6.0% in her County tax, 0.6% in her EPISD tax, 14.3% in her EPCC tax, and 5.4% in her UMC tax.

If my mother were to move to Santa Teresa, New Mexico, her property tax on an equivalent home would be more than $2,000 lower.

Seniors on a fixed income like my mother suffer the most from the relentless increases in our property tax, which is driven by the incompetence and greed of our local politicians.

That is why my mother, who is Vice President of Instigation of the El Paso Taxpayer Revolt, voted for Dr. Sam Armijo to represent her on City Council, and Minerva Torres Shelton Torres and Annette Griego to represent her on the Commissioners Court.

Don’t forget to vote tomorrow!
