EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) — A 47-year-old man was arrested on Saturday, June 14 for unlawful carrying of a firearm during the “No Kings” protests on Saturday, June 14 in East-Central El Paso, police said.
Michael Edward Abeyta, 47, was arrested and charged with unlawful carrying of a weapon. He was also found by police to have several outstanding traffic warrants, one from El Paso County and six from the City of El Paso.
At about 12:40 p.m., a man, later identified as Abeyta, was seen driving along the protest on the 700 block of Edgemere.
Officers were in the area to ensure the safety of everyone and were told by a protest participatant that a man was driving along the protest route with an unholstered handgun, police said.
Officers found the vehicle and detained Abeyta. Police said officers found that Abeyta had placed an unholstered handgun on the dashboard of his vehicle.
He was arrested and booked into the El Paso County Detention Facility with a total bond of $4,416.56, police said.
