EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) – A 33-year-old man has been arrested after almost striking an officer with his vehicle following a road rage incident that escalated to an officer-involved shooting on Monday, Feb. 3, in West El Paso, El Paso Police Department (EPPD) said.
EPPD said Angel Wolfgang Trevizo, 33, was arrested and charged with aggravated assault on a public servant and is facing a $100,000 bond.
On Feb. 3, an EPPD 6-year veteran was investigating a traffic hazard when he observed Trevizo exiting his vehicle and confronting a driver who was stopped at the intersection of Mesa Street and Sunland Park Drive, EPPD said.
EPPD said the officer attempted to intervene for the safety of the person being confronted by Trevizo. However, Trevizo entered his vehicle, disobeyed the officer’s orders, and drove away, almost striking the officer. The officer then fired his weapon hitting Trevizo.
Trevizo was treated for his injuries by officers on scene and was taken to a local hospital, EPPD said.
EPPD said Crimes Against Persons continued with the investigation and separate investigations were conducted by the Texas Rangers and EPPD’s Shooting Review Team.
A warrant was issued for Trevizo, and he was booked after being released from the hospital, EPPD said.
