EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) — Interstate 10 near Lordsburg, New Mexico, will be closed for more than 30 hours starting on Tuesday, April 1 for partial bridge removal, the New Mexico Department of Transportation said.
The closure will happen along I-10 eastbound and westbound at Exit 24 near Lordsburg. The closure will begin at 8:30 a.m. Tuesday and last until 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, NMDOT said.
Both eastbound and westbound traffic on the I-10 will be rerouted off the highway and back on at the exit ramp during the demolition. Motorists should expect delays and are advised to follow posted road closure signs. If possible, avoid the area.
The westbound portion of the bridge needs to be removed following a collision on March 7, when a commercial motor vehicle carrying an excavator struck the bridge at Exit 24, NMDOT said.
Engineers immediately inspected the bridge, and it was determined this portion of the bridge needs to be removed, NMDOT said.
