KTSM News – Pedestrian dies after struck by vehicle in West El Paso

Posted on December 2, 2024

EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) — A 34-year-old homeless man died after he was struck by a vehicle Friday evening, Nov. 22, in West El Paso, according to El Paso Police.

Police say they responded to the 5300 block of N. Mesa in reference to a crash that happened at around 5:30 p.m. that Friday.

Police say a woman driving in a 2015 Chevrolet Traverse was traveling northwest on the 5300 block of N. Mesa when Ray James Robert, 34, crossed the street without using the crosswalk.

The woman was unable to avoid Robert and struck him. The woman remained at the scene when the crash occurred.

Robert was transported to a local hospital. On Saturday, Nov. 30, the Medical Examiner’s Office contacted investigators, informing them that Robert had died as a result of the crash.

Police say a pedestrian crossing at a point other than a crosswalk was a contributing factor in this crash.

This is the 63rd traffic fatality of 2024 compared to 75 last year.
