EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) — After nearly a month, the Trout Fire, burning north of Silver City, is nearly fully contained, fire officials said Wednesday, July 9 in what they said would be their final update.
The fire, burning 12 miles north of Silver City, charred 47,294 acres. It is now 96 percent contained, fire officials said.

This fire started on July 12 and was determined to be lightning-caused, fire officials said.
Tuesday, firefighters on the Trout Fire finished up some chipping work while road repair was conducted inside the fire perimeter. This road repair is expected to continue Wednesday and Thursday.
The newer Panther Fire, burning about 10 miles west of Lake Roberts, is also nearly contained, fire officials said. This fire is 80 acres and is now 71 percent contained. This fire started on July 2 and was also caused by lightning.
Fire officials said this will be the final update given on the two fires.
The Gila Las Cruces Type 3 Team will turn over the management of the fires to the Gila National Forest at 6 p.m. Wednesday.
