KTSM News – Weather Authority Alert triggered for strong winds, blowing dust

Posted on October 28, 2024

EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) — The Borderland experienced a breezy start to the workweek, and those breezes will only get stronger over the next 24 hours.

Our weather team has triggered an alert due to incoming strong winds that can reach gusts up to 40 mph starting Tuesday afternoon.

Northern and central New Mexico will see the strongest winds from the southwest ranging 25-30 mph, and gusts up to 50 mph. The National Weather Service has issued a wind advisory for Tuesday in these areas due to these conditions.

For Las Cruces and El Paso, winds will still be very strong. However, the main concern will be blowing dust due to our current dry conditions.

On top of the high winds, a cool front will also enter the region.

Wednesday will feature calmer and cooler weather with a high of 71 and a low around 46.

This launches us into ideal trick-or-treating temperatures. For Halloween expect a high of 73 and a low of 51.

For Friday, we’ll mainly see sunny skies and a high of 77. For the evening hours, a 30 percent chance of scattered eastern showers is possible, followed by thunderstorms just before midnight along with a low of 51.

Saturday onwards temperatures will range from the upper 70s to lower 70s and drop to lower 50s overnight with partly cloudy skies.

Come Tuesday, things really cool down with a high of 67.
